Thanks to your kindness and generosity the ‘Time for tea, cakes and a chat’ event held in Glanvilles Wootton Village Hall, raised an amazing £943.50, to which gift aid of £235.87 was added, making a total of £1,179.37 for the DEC Turkey and Syria Earthquake appeal fund. A lovely selection of cakes were donated. Examples are shown in photograph on the left (that’s before they all arrived). We were particularly delighted to have some delicious homemade Syrian Semolina Cake (shown on the right) which was kindly brought along by a local Syrian family. Not only did around a 100 people enjoy cakes with their cuppa, some kindly purchased cakes for home consumption or gifts.

Dear All,

The village now has a supply of sandbags for the use of GW residents. They are located at the old fire station next door to the village hall. Given the current flooding issues those who feel their properties are vulnerable should take those that they need as soon as possible. Experience in other communities has been that sandbags are in demand and village allocations are soon exhausted.

Meanwhile discussions are ongoing regarding measures to address the flooding problem.

Proposed closure of B3146 Jan ’22

Dear Sir/Madam
Dorset Council are continuing to maintain and invest in Dorset’s highway network. In recognition of the current pandemic, additional safety measures are
also being taken to ensure the health and safety of workers in these unprecedented times. We are working closely with other highway authorities across
the south west and with industry bodies to share knowledge of new ways of working. We will continue to do our best to keep Dorset’s businesses and
residents up to date as work progresses. The latest information on all planned road works can be found at www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/roadworks
To enable us to carry out maintenance work, we plan to close B3146 Glanvilles Wootton between 18th and 26th January 2022. The road will be closed
daily between the hours of 09:00 and 16.00 but it will be open overnight and at weekends. During the closure periods there will be no on street parking
available. Parking restrictions will be imposed to prevent waiting or parking on the roads stated above. Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any
restriction imposed by this Notice may be removed under the provisions of the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986. If a vehicle has been
towed the owner will need to contact our towing contractors Bride Valley on 01305 889421.
We will be repairing sections of road within the area marked in red indicated on the map. The diversion route is marked in blue. National regulations state
that we have to divert traffic onto the same classification of road as the one we have closed.
In the current financial climate, the highways service has had to focus it budget on targeting the most damaged sections of road and areas with safety
issues.
We will contact you again nearer the time to confirm the dates of the work and the closure needed.

At the Glanvilles Wootton Parish Meeting held in October it was agreed that the average parish rate for 2022/23 should remain the same at £4 per household per annum.

However, two mature ash trees on land between the village hall and the fire station owned by the parish, are suffering from ash die back and an inspection report concludes that they need to be felled for safety reasons. Currently the application to remove tree preservation orders on the trees is with DC and the plan is to fell the trees when permission is granted.

Generously, the village hall committee is giving support to the parish to meet any immediate cost but bills will need to be repaid in 2022.

My proposal is to raise the average parish rate for 2022/23 by £1 per annum per household to meet this cost. Rather than convene a one issue meeting in these covid times please forward your views on this proposal to me, chairgwparishmeeting@outlook.com or 01963 210256. Objections and serious reservations will mean that an extraordinary meeting will need to be held.

Dorset Council would like your help please.

As you may already be aware, the effects of the widely-reported national HGV driver shortage – coupled with the continuing impact of the pandemic – are starting to disrupt some of our waste services.

We are working hard to ensure that key waste services continue to run throughout this challenging time, but we are having to temporarily suspend or delay some garden waste collections so that crews can be redeployed to support vital rubbish, food and recycling collections. Litter bins are also being emptied less frequently in some areas of the county, and new bin deliveries are also being delayed.

While we continue to work on tackling the problem, I would greatly appreciate it if you could pass these key messages to any residents who may approach you with questions or concerns around their bin collections: –

• Always report your missed collection directly to Dorset Council, even if your whole street is affected. Our website has an automated system that will inform you what’s happening with your bins and provide guidance on what to do next (Weblink – Missed bin collection – Dorset Council)
• Please ensure your bins are out by 6am on your collection day. Some rounds are being carried out differently, meaning that we might turn up earlier or later in the day than usual
• If you find a litter bin is full, do not try to leave your litter on top/next to it or on the floor nearby – please take it home and place in your household bin. We also encourage people to report over-filled bins on the Dorset Council website (Weblink – Report a public litter bin problem – Dorset Council sel – Welcomef-service portal (achieveservice.com))
• If any garden waste collections have to be cancelled/stood down we will contact customers directly to advise them. As compensation for any garden waste collections that were not received, we will automatically apply a discount to next year’s subscription fee.
• Rubbish, recycling, garden and food waste can be dropped off free of charge at any of Dorset’s household recycling centres, which are operating as normal.

Dear All,

               You should have been notified but please be reminded that part of the route for the cycle ride runs from Holwell to GW, via Stock Hill, east along Park lane then to Middlemarsh via Kennels Lane. The road is closed from 8 am until midday. Stewards are placed at road junctions and in the past have been receptive to urgent requests for vehicular access for short distances. Permission for essential access, carers, livestock etc can be sought by contacting, 03330 116600 or weymouth@ironmanroadaccess.com. There is also an understanding with race organisers that litter left by the event will be collected.
