Village Hall

GLANVILLES WOOTTON, HOLNEST AND MIDDLEMARSH VILLAGE HALL

The Village Hall is situated close to the centre of Glanvilles Wotton and provides a useful community amenity to the parishes of Glanvilles Wootton, Holnest and Middlemarsh and surrounding area.

  • The Hall is licensed for 100 people.
  • It consists of a Main Hall, a modern well equipped kitchen, ample tables and chairs, a portable stage and piano, good cloakroom facilities and is accessed via a level entrance from the large adjacent car park.
  • It has a Performing Rights Society License. Hirers intending to sell alcohol need to obtain the necessary licence from North Dorset District Council.
  • A Defibrillator is on site.
  • The Hall is managed by Trustees and is a registered charity.  Charity Number 301132.

The Main Hall

Village Hall Quiz Night December 2016

The main hall is accessed by glass double doors from the car park through a light entrance hall and through further double doors.
The floor is suspended and measures approx 14 meters X 6.3 metres.
It will seat up to 100 people with tables and chairs.
There are ample tables and chairs.
A portable stage is situated at one end of the hall and there is also a piano.
There is access off the hall to the modern kitchen in addition to a good size serving hatch to the kitchen.
The hall is well lit and heat is provided by overhead electric radiant heaters.
There is a small storage area to the side and a further separate larger storage room at the far end of the hall.

The Kitchen

WI Christmas Dinner 2016

The kitchen is well designed and was built in 2015 to building regulations standard and newly equipped in 2016. It has ample work hygienic worktops and storage together with an easy to clean floor. There is a separate overhead fan heater that heats the kitchen.

It has a double stainless steel sink with draining boards either side. This is served by a modern ‘quick to temperature’ hot water heater. There is also a hand wash sink.

Large Range Cooker

There is a range style electric cooker with large single oven and a 5 ring ceramic hob. A tall refrigerator and a microwave are also available.  Additionally are 2 large electric kettles and a large urn. There is a large lightweight trolley that has a variety of uses.  Our latest addition is a dishwasher which has transformed events – more people are happy to volunteer in the kitchen!

There is sufficient matching cutlery for 100 place settings and there are 100 matching white dinner plates, desert plates and bowls and mugs.  Cups and Saucers are also available together with a range of other useful utensils.

The kitchen is well light with an external door providing easy access for loading from the car park. The kitchen is fitted with an extractor fan.  There is a good sized hatch with up and over door which provides a hygienic serving counter to the main hall. Beside the hatch is an additional door directly to the main hall.

Cloakroom facilities

There are separate Ladies and Gents cloakrooms in addition to a further cloakroom for with disabled facilities.

Immediately adjacent to the hall there is a good level tarmac car park with easy access to and from the street.

The Deer Leap play area

The public children’s play area, The Deer Leap, is immediately adjacent to the hall.

From Sherborne take the A352 towards Dorchester. After passing through the village of Long Burton, enter the village of Holnest take the left hand turning B3146 signposted to Glanvilles Wootton. Proceed into the centre of the village where you turn left and you will find the village hall approximately 75 yards on your right hand side. From Dorchester take A352 from towards Sherborne. After Middlemarsh enter the village of Holnest take the right hand turning B3146 signposted to Glanvilles Wootton. Proceed into the centre of the village where you turn left and you will find the village hall approximately 75 yards on your right hand side. From other directions go to the centre of the village where the roads meet at the war memorial where there is a finger post to the village hall.
